“Place this salt in water, and then wait on me in the morning.” The son did as he was commanded. The father said to him: “Bring me the salt, which you placed in the water last night.” The son having looked for it, found it not, for, of course, it was melted. The father said:… Read More »
Last night we walked over to Safeway at dusk, a special trip for normal things. For example, almond extract. And the cottage cheese I love, Knudsen, which is the only cottage cheese worth eating, bar none, and it’s not sold at my usual places. And some epsom’s salt for long baths. They say it’s supposed… Read More »

After such an angry morning, I have had the most lovely day. I made this wonderful lentil dish for dinner, a variation of this rice and lentils dish, doubled, with jalapenos, garlic, lentils, rice, tomatoes, onions, lemon juice, curry powder, olive oil, salt, and pepper. It’s so good, hot but not too hot. And then… Read More »
rice and lentils #2
It’s cheap! It’s got protein! It tastes good! 2 ½ cups water ½ cup white rice ½ cup lentils 2 tbsp butter 1 onion chopped spices (2 tsp curry powder, for example) Stir together then simmer 20 minutes covered. For variation, add some tomatoes.

Slept in two hours this morning, lovely. It stopped raining as the weather report said it would. Dreamed I was having a conference with a student who had turned in a horrible paper. Whole sections were just copied from the internet, and he didn’t even bother to fix the font. I was trying to explain… Read More »

Today I drove us to vespers, and we glimpsed a chicken at the place where we always see chickens. Only the white one was to be seen. My dear P gave me a hug for Easter. Jesus’ picture was all decorated with flowers on the altar. And more people than usual were present. It was… Read More »
I remember #36
I remember my mom peeling her grapes. I liked my BBQed hotdogs burnt. She made potato salad and macaroni salad. Usually there were some good beans. Back then I picked out all my onions. Back then I loved tri-tip and tri-tip sandwiches, best on a french roll. I realized that plants need water not because… Read More »
