please dance

Hello, reader. How are you doing? It’s ok if you don’t like to dance. But thank you for supporting the people who do. Dance is healing for many of us, and I invite you to join us if you’re local to the Eugene area. Please dance if that’s something you’d like to do.

Our next Transqueer Fat Disabled Dance is October 3rd at 1pm at Alton Baker Park behind the bathrooms. There’s a drinking fountain there, and various kinds of surfaces to dance on. You are welcome whatever your body is like, and whatever your disabilities are like. Please consider dancing with us. All ages– free.

I believe with all my heart that singing, making art, and dancing are part of being a person. We don’t need to leave it to the experts. Playing is fun. We don’t need to worry about whether we’re doing it right, or doing it well.

I’m sorry that capitalism made it like… we have to do things in a certain way in order to be successful and get money. Life is about so much more than meeting another person’s standards and making money.

Let’s make new standards where dancing in any way, shape, or form is to win. All dance is good dance, like all bodies are good bodies. Let’s include everyone, and let’s exclude the hierarchy that makes people afraid to move.

death

Personally I feel like dancing is the opposite of death. Dance is a stirring inside me like, “Hey, we are alive. Who knows for how long. So while we can, let’s hear music and let it move us around.”

Dance is playful and releases emotions that I need to feel. It’s the antidote to staleness. It’s a way to heal myself after sitting down for a long time at my computer or making finely detailed art. Dance is the reward for being. I endured a lot of harm and emotional pain. Dancing is the joy I get to compensate. And it’s free to dance, so why not?

A lot of care like acupuncture, delicious organic meals, dental work, vacation, and comfortable cars are hella expensive. Moving my body is free. Please dance with me if you would like someone fatter than you and possibly more disabled than you, right by your side.

tank division

Just like I have volunteered to stand between you and a security camera as you do what you need to do, I can stand between you and the world if you don’t want others to look at you while you’re dancing. They will possibly ignore you and say, “Wow, I didn’t know someone that fat could shake their ass that heartily.” And you can do whatever you want, less perceived.

That’s an idea anyway. Please dance if that’s part of what you’re on earth to do.
