demislapstical

Hi, reader. How are you doing? What’s your sense of humor? This morning I articulated for the first time to Ming that I’m demislapstical. That’s based on the idea of demisexual.

Demisexual means you’re only attracted to people you have an emotional bond with. Sex outside of close relationship doesn’t even make sense– it’s unappealing. People are not sexually attractive to me unless I know and trust them.

Likewise, I only like slapstick if I love the person performing it. All the rest of slapstick is irrelevant. Offensive, even.

helmet

We had just gone on a trike ride / bike ride, and we were walking back to our home, after Ming locked up our wheeled conveyances. I had been holding Ming’s helmet.

“Do you wanna hold your helmet?” I asked.

“Yes,” Ming said.

I need at least one hand to get up the stairs to our home. Best is two free hands so I can climb the stairs using my arms, like Spiderman climbs up a building.

demislapstical

So I handed Ming their bike helmet, and they dipped the right side of their body like the helmet was very heavy. I giggled and giggled.

I love Ming beyond love. It reminded me of being three years old. The slapstick was happening within the context of relationship. Ming wanted to amuse me, and it worked.

complexification

Strangers on a screen doing slapstick is pointless to me. Unless there are acrobatics or dance to intrigue me, no thank you!

When I was a kid, my dad watched the old TV show Three Stooges. The three stooges interacted with slapstick and physical violence. There were weird sounds they made too. I think the repetition was supposed to be comforting. People like my dad can watch the actors do physical things that are not allowed to regular people. Like the role of clowns.

I enjoy the beauty of choreography of dance, but less so how artful wrestlers move in stylized ways. My good friend likes pro wrestling for the storytelling, enactments of good and evil, and I’m guessing the movement and drama.

I can see the appeal of witnessing the continuity of relationships among the wrestlers, and holding themes for a long time. The continuity of themes.

thank you

I’m grateful that new ideas and words bubble up at simple times. Grateful to be demislapstical and notice ideas that connect and rhyme. Grateful Ming wants to make me laugh and loves me.

Thank you to friends who have interests different from mine. Grateful we stay curious.
