life updates: parsnips, art, and madness

Hello, reader. How are you doing? I have a few life updates to give you.

First of all, I hate parsnips. I think they taste weird, like the texture and the flavor don’t go together. It’s a bold move, but I’m ready to come out as a no parsnip person. They show up at the food bank sometimes, and Ming will forget my feelings toward parsnips vs rutabaga or turnip, which I love.

It’s bold to come out as anti-parsnip because my other hated veg are all similar– they are fibery with low flavor. I’m talking about bamboo, jicama, mung bean sprouts, water chestnut, and celery. Then bok Choi is kinda like celery.

Parsnip is fibery with high flavor. Thank you for your patience with my veg feelings. I will play the autism card if that will help. Honestly I have not tried them in soup yet. Maybe blended they would be fine.

I asked Ming to stand in solidarity with me, and they said yes. But then I roasted more parsnips which Ming had picked up at the food giveaway, along with an old sweet potato, and Ming likes them. So maybe we will be a mixed family.

flier

I think this Eugene Radical Mental Health flier I made is kinda cute.

twee

It reminds me of a twee zinester style, which I didn’t intend. Maybe that’s just me, or that was me on Wednesday.

I made it at the library in Salem, Oregon which was possible because Ming had packed my emotional first aid kit for me. The current iteration of my emotional first aid kit has a tiny colored pencil set and tiny watercolor set. Thank you, sweetheart.

I love you

Also I am obsessed with death. I made Ming’s birthday card and decided immediately to give it to them in case they die before their birthday.

card

“Normal people don’t think like that!” I said to myself in a chastising way. But did we sign up for a normal strawberry? No, we signed up for a remarkable, hugely emotional Strawberry.

We knew this about me. So let’s love me for who I am, shall we? Working on it!

poison oak

Also I made this art of poison oak for Ming’s old permaculture teacher who loves it.

gender

Ming got “ma’am”ed the other day in the parking lot of Jerry’s. That’s a local hardware store chain. We giggled in the car.

Ming used to get “ma’am”ed a lot when we were young. Also people would refer to us as “ladies.”

These days Ming is my height (shrunk five inches) and wears hair barrettes. So here we are, back in “ma’am” land. Not to mention the breasts. Oops, I just mentioned them.

dance plans

There’s the April transqueer fat disabled dance if you wanna join us. All bodies are welcome at Alton Baker park behind the bathrooms, 1pm, free, rain or shine, to dance in the revolution. The future is disabled!

madness

Spring makes me crazy. We are surviving through the days. If you hear from me less, this is why. I take phone breaks to reduce my stress so I keep sleeping and avoid a “psychotic episode.” It’s weird because you know I love sunshine: I love it because it has a huge affect on me.

Sun mysteries– crazy mysteries. I am doing arcane madness rites in my spare time. It’s the only way I survive.

Spirit says I need to feel it: five of cups. She put me here to be dissatisfied and create a better world; I’m doing my damnedest. In a world of denial and distraction, I’m showing up to feel.

Ming’s birthday

This is a paypal email you can use in case you want to send funds to Ming for their big birthday. We’d be sure to do something special with it. Here’s a venmo you can use too.

Good at listening to good listeners.

One reply on “life updates: parsnips, art, and madness”

Hello, so much I want to say in this time where you are going so much. Thank you for sharing your art.

I will eat more parsnips when I can, so you don’t have to. I like the way you talk about food and what it means.

I hope I can wish Ming a happy birthday on this date. If the card has not yet arrived, hopefully it will tomorrow when mail service resumes.

We usually get “you guys” when we go out. Not sure how that makes me feel. When I’m at work I try to use more formal gendered terms because that’s what’s expected but maybe I should push back.

Best wishes for everything you’re doing going forward.
