Hey, reader. How are you doing? I’m a good cook! There’s so much surplus I wish I had more access to. So I’m asking for help with food pertaining to food banks, dumpster diving, and foraging. If you live nearby, thank you for considering!
nuts and fruits
If you know how to process walnuts and have a place to do that, I would love to learn from you. I could show you the walnut trees in my neighborhood, and we could harvest together in the fall. Online I read about it, but you know it’s different to learn in person, developing muscle memory.
I read they need to dry out in a middle place which is dry and neither indoors nor outdoors. Sound liminal! Ming and I don’t have a place like that. Our porch is wet.
Also I was having a sensory squick from hulling the outer shell. But maybe you know a way to hull the outer shell that’s better.
There are lots of apples and pears in fall for people who are willing to process them, including cutting out the insect life. Would you be my apple pear buddy?
meals
Food banks require standing in line for a long time. Even if I get a walker with a seat, it’s sensory hell and socially hard too.
So if you would visit the food bank for me, or for yourself, and share some booty with me, I would be happy to cook for you. We could eat meals together. Or I could give you meals to go, to bring to work with you or on an outing.
As for dumpster diving, I am keen on winter squash, potatoes that need a part cut off, etc. Thank you for considering me.
Also if you tell me things you like from free food places, I could keep an eye out for what’s most desirable for you, and ask Ming to. For example, we don’t eat gluten, but if you like regular pasta, bagels, and desserts, we could get some for you.
fantasy
I hope to live next door to my chosen family member one day. They are agile and nimble. Then I can cook from what they dumpster.
As culture breaks down more, there are many people who can benefit from my cooking from free ingredients.
Thank you for considering. Also I’m ready for an extra-large rollator-type walker with a weight rating of 350 pounds if you have one you’re giving away. I love you.
