nutmeg

Strawberry

“I pulled nutmeg about you yesterday,” I said.  “So I made oatmeal because I wanted to see if nutmeg had anything to teach me.”

Usually when I pull tarot cards, I ask what I most need and about my most important relationships.  Always I include the question, “How can I be kind to Ming?”  I’m in it for the long haul, and being kind to the person I most love is important to me.

With other relationships, I ask, “What should I be doing with this person?” and sometimes their long term and short term role in my life.  With Ming and our chosen family member, I just ask how to be kind.  God, life is so hard.  A little kindness goes a long way.

plans

In this wonderful Magic Pantry deck, the three of wands is nutmeg.  I think of three of wands as beginning to implement brilliant plans, actualizing great ideas.

Ace of wands is beginning to dream new dreams, two of wands is beginning to plan and prioritize, and three is “It’s time! Do it!”

“Did nutmeg teach you anything?” Ming asked.

I had just handed Ming a bowl of oatmeal with lots of raisins, as Ming loves raisins almost like the dog loves the bone.

oatmeal story

“Ok, settle back because I’m going to tell you a lil story about oatmeal and selfishness,” I said to Ming.  “Are you ready?”

“Yes,” said Ming.

Unfortunately, the story is forgotten.  This blog post was a draft sitting in my drafts folder for months, like maybe since winter.

“Do I want to live in the world that exists, or in the world that I’m worried about?” I asked.

Again, a mystery– I have no idea what that was in reference to. But it’s evocative, right?  In a way, we’re all living in the world that exists, while we have so many overlays of what we’re worried about.  Or at least I do. Worry is so easy.

oats

I pull the oatmeal card often, which is about time off, balance, hard work. It’s seven or eight of pentacles.

I think of oats as very humble and dear. My mom liked thicker oats that hold their texture. I like baby oats which almost dissolve.

Today we celebrate my birthday without my mom here as a living person. But she is in my cells, my heart, my spirit, and keeping me safe until safety changes.

Here are the gluten-free vegan pumpkin ginger pecan maple cakes I baked this morning. They do include nutmeg.
