“What’s your name?” I shouted over the music.
“James!” he shouted back, shaking my hand.
“DJ James?” I asked.
“Spun Kitty,” he said.
“Ok, thank you,” I said. “Spun Kitty.”
It was Saturday, and I was at the farmers market with Ming. By that point, it was pouring rain. Spun Kitty had a rag and was drying off his speakers where the rain was hitting them, despite the canopy. His headphones were off, so it was my chance to learn what he called himself. There was no sign on his table, but I put a dollar in the tip jar. I hoped to find him online and listen to more of his sick beats.
Earlier Ming and I were buying veg, vegan cheese, potatoes, and other local delights. I heard the sick beats over across the street, where vendors set up selling crystals, jewelry, and glass weed pipes. So I went over there to dance.
It was kind of embarrassing, since no one else was dancing, but that’s ok. After the first couple minutes, nothing matters but movement. The joy in my body is sputtering out. Music is to feel. I like to enjoy with my whole body.

Then I searched. This playlist on soundcloud–the first song is pretty amazing, so maybe I found him.
Speaking of amazing, my homegirl Bag has a new album out via her new tape label Hetti Tapes. It’s called Isis, and she finished it just recently. I was honored to help speaker test it.
Wow, look what I said about it before. “Isis explores dark sensual underwater depths and reaches luminous blue and green beams of beats to help listeners swim and inhabit new sonic caves.” – Laura-Marie Strawberry Nopales
Yep–accurate. I encourage you to dance it also, if you want some electronic bliss and noisy nonsense moving your booty in ways it might never have moved before. That’s my goal, anyway.
The track xxx I helped name–it’s still my favorite. I thought xxx would be a good name because it’s so sensual and sexy. The sexiest track on there. It beautifully undulates.
