surprise of spring

surprise of spring

“Surprise of spring?” I asked Ming.  He looked at me–we were at the cabin in Arizona we like to retreat to.

“That horseradish stuff, mixed with beets!  I love it!” I said.  Ming seemed curious as he listened to me.

“I tried it at Passover.  It’s not too hot at all,” I continued.  Horseradish has a reputation for being spicy, so I didn’t think I would like it.  “Mixing the horseradish with beets makes it weaker, I guess.  I’ve been condimenting with it.  So good!  And so pretty.  Pretty color.”

Ming looked appreciative of my surprise of spring.  “Thank you, Jewish people!  Good work on the condiment!” I said.  I gave two thumbs up.

Felt great to share my joy.  Ming smiled.  He did not say, “You’re welcome.” I guess he was not responsible for maror.  I’d like more bright pink food.

Wind gives me bad allergy attacks.  Why is that?  I guess a lot of pollen flies into me?  My eyes are watery and itchy, and I use all the tissues.

Speaking of using all the tissues, I made a Mother’s Day plan.  Crying was on the agenda.  I made my own little mini calendar in my journal and planned my meals to make sure I kept eating.

When I know difficulty is ahead, planning helps me stay safe.  Self-awareness is very helpful.  Thank you, Laura-Marie, for paying attention to your inner world.

Yes, you were told to stop daydreaming,  navel gazing, being self-centered, being a hermit.  But I know you were doing important work, alone.  Your inner world matters.

Thank you for not letting anyone peer pressure you into not being yourself.  You strove to be appropriate and survive, but inside, you always stayed strong in your Laura-Marie nature.  For that you are a badass.

Good at listening to the noise until it makes sense.
