I wanted to show you this envelope art. Not every day do I have or make the energy, to do envelope art.
But this one, my friend drew a special dog saying hi, and I was sending a reply zine in the same envelope. So I couldn’t help but draw myself saying hi back to the doggie. Do you recognize me?

I was wearing headphones. I hope my friend gets a smile.
Also I made some yellow split pea soup, using yellow peas I found on the street, a while back. There was a case on the sidewalk, and I took six pounds.
I photographed the yellow peas as they cooked, just about done. What’s the film they get, on the top. A legume film, I guess.

I put salt, garlic granulated, some black pepper. Then to my individual serving I put some olive oil. It was tasty. For Ming’s I put some hot Ethiopian spices. Free food, pretty much. The olive oil in inexpensive, and the spices are mostly from the worker.
cookie delivery
This is an old post that kept getting pushed back, so now I am going to talk about a Christmas experience though it is no longer anywhere near Christmastime.
Our friend came by to drop off some Christmas cookies he and his kids had made. I had yellow pea soup on the stove, and I dished some for him in a to go container. He’s vegan, and the food was vegan, so it was serendipitous. Extra vegan soup– briefly visiting vegan.
Ming delivered one of the plates to the back house, and he saw a plate of cookies was already there. Yes, our friend had delivered two plates of cookies to Freedom House also, and they gave their extra plate to the back house just like us.
Ming was explaining this to me.
“What?!” I exclaimed. I was surprised our friend gave cookies to Freedom House also. Suddenly I felt less special. “That cookie slut!” I said.
kitchen laugh
Then we were cracking up: at the idea of a cookie slut, at the silliness of human emotions, my desire to be special. At Christmas, at jealousy, at surprise itself.
It was a good kitchen laugh. Love to you, reader. I hope you have good kitchen laughs also.
