Dangerous Compassions

a memory of ice

R (in the freezer): Can I have this?

me: What?

R: Not the ice cream.  The ice.

me: We don’t have any ice.

Ming: We don’t have any ice.

R: It’s right here.

me: What do you want it for?

R: I want to put it in my drink.

me: Okay, you can have it.

R: There’s something wrong with your ice.  (Ice has black particles in it.)

me: Oh, well don’t put it back.  Put it by the sink.

For some reason this memory makes me laugh.

Good at listening to the noise until it makes sense.
