Dangerous Compassions

Time to turn off the fan.

Time to drain the swamp coolers

and snug them into their covers.

Time to close all the windows.

Desert summer has ended–

I survived it.

Time to burn blue candles.

Time to walk any hour of day.

Time to sit in the courtyard.

Desert summer has ended–

glory be to fall.

Grackles and mocking birds visit.

The streets flood with rainwater.

We can go to the mountains

before snows close the roads.

Desert summer has ended.

Good at listening to the noise until it makes sense.
